How to Fix Error 64 “The specified network name is no longer available”
In this article we show possible fixes for Windows error 64 “The specified network name is no longer available”,
which may pop up when large network I/O is performed and appears to affect only certain kinds of devices, for example, Linux-based NAS devices during lengthy backups.
In the network adapter settings of the sending machine (or both machines), disable all of the following options, if they exist:
Large Receive Offload Large Send Offload IPv4 Checksum Offload TCP Checksum Offload
In addition, you could locate the following key in the registry and set it to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters\DisableTaskOffload
The above key disables the TCP Chimney (TCP Offload). Setting it to 0 enables it again.
BackupChain Features
As a Windows Server backup software, BackupChain offers several network backup and NAS backup features that automate backups over the network. You can also set up a cloud backup system or use a server for remote backup purposes at your choice.
Another great application of BackupChain is live virtual machine backup. You can backup a VDHX while running and take an online backup using file versioning even over FTP. You will find that whether you backup over FTP, the network, or to a local disk, the unified user interface offers the same features for all targets.
